RFP on 1 Million Acre Scaling Study for Camelina Open

Expansive spring field of blooming camelina.
June 30, 2025

The University of Minnesota Forever Green Initiative, in partnership with a cross-sector leadership team including GREATER MSP Partnership's MBOLD and SAF Hub, Friends of the Mississippi River, Minnesota Environmental Partnership, and McKnight Foundation, is accepting proposals for a consultant, or consulting team, to lead the development of a shared cross-sector scaling study and roadmap for the pathway to achieving the first million acres of winter camelina (WC) in the Upper Midwest.

The project will characterize key steps and stages in winter camelina's prospective scaling pathway and the crucial activities needed to reach each milestone. Key additional factors include modeling farmer and supply chain economics, regulatory barriers, and the scale and nature of needed investments. Ultimately, study results will create a shared understanding among stakeholders of what needs to be done to scale to 1 million acres of WC in Minnesota and the Upper Midwest as quickly as possible. The scaling study will be conducted in a roughly one-year period between September, 2025 and October, 2026.
